About the event
This promises to be a delightful, heart-warming, festive afternoon, so please do join author and harpist Hazel Prior by the fireside at Seven Fables and discover her joyous writing.
Life and Otter Miracles is her fourth novel, her previous titles include Ellie and the Harp Maker, likewise set on Exmoor, and Away with the Penguins, which was a featured pick for not only the BBC Radio 2 Book Club but also the Richard and Judy Book Club.
‘Down by the river, Phoebe Featherstone is about to make a life-changing discovery . . . Clever, nosy Phoebe is unable to get out much, but she has a talent for uncovering her neighbours' secrets by examining the parcels delivered by her courier father, Al.
When they discover an abandoned baby otter on the riverbank, Phoebe must step out of her comfort zone - and she experiences an unexpected sense of happiness that she has not felt in a very long time. But now, further secrets are coming to light.
Phoebe soon realises that something is amiss at the local otter sanctuary. She will need to overcome her own closely guarded issues and put all her sleuthing skills to good use if she wants to save the otters . . . and in the process, change her life for ever.’
When asked about her writing genre and style, Hazel’s reply is…
‘I’m not sure that my books fit into any genre apart from ‘book club’ but they’ve all been described as original and uplifting. I have done my best to write what is true, what is lovely, what is important and what is fun… and I’ve sneakily managed to put in some of my favourite things, like harps and penguins!’ We believe she needs to add otters and Exmoor to that list…
‘Life and Otter Miracles is a warm-hearted and uplifting story which celebrates the power of nature and the resilience of the human spirit. With a cast of beautifully-drawn characters and a delightful small-town mystery as its heart, this is a story that readers will be sure to fall in love with.’ - Freya Sampson, author of The Last Library
