Events Seven Fables has hosted many exhibitions, workshops and book signings over the years - all we hope with a little magic! Last year we welcomed writers Hannah Stowe, Katherine May, Catrina Davies, and Jackie Morris joined us for our 21st birthday celebrations. 2024 was a busy year for our small creative team hosting Fiona Williams, Sarah Easter Collins, Dani Robertson and Catherine Hyde. We also ventured out making appearances at the Exmoor Festival of Nature, The Exeter City of Literature Book Market, and supporting literary events for The Exmoor Society. Looking ahead to 2025, we are thrilled to be organising the exhibition and launch for Unbound's Wild Folk by Tamsin Abbott and Jackie Morris. We also have a partnership project planned with Barnstaple library... The Seven Fables newsletter will keep you updated with future dates and ticket details, so do subscribe if you wish to meet other likeminded 'Fable Folk'! Rachel Bailey Rachel's work caught our eye as she too shares a love for the wild creatures that occupy that liminal divide between the natural world and those evasive magical realms... A practicing jeweller since 1993 it is only recently that she has been able to indulge in her own designs for this more ethereal range. The semi precious stones are an integral part of her inspiration suggesting landscapes that her birds and animals inhab it - all are ethically sourced from India. Walking Book Club If you love reading and enjoy walking, then this could be just the book club you have been seeking... ​ Joining the group is free and new members are always made welcome. We do request however that you purchase your copy of the selected title from Seven Fables by way of booking your place and 'purchasing a ticket.' There is 'Walk Only' ticket option if you wish to share a book with a friend or prefer to listen to the audio version beforehand. We depart promptly at 2pm from outside the shop where we return by 4.30pm at the latest. ​ A level of walking fitness is required, please wear suitable footwear and dress appropriately as we walk in all weathers. ​Bring a drink and a snack to enjoy, a flask is a good idea when the weather is cooler, and something to keep your bottom dry as we often sit on a mossy bank or fallen log! ​ Happy & sociable dogs are welcome. We kindly request short leads only, however once in the woods they may roam free, kept under close control. *Dogs are not permitte d on our special event walks and talks - if in doubt please do ask. ​ If you require accommodation Knapp House , Mounsey End and Nutsford House offer a 10% discount to guests who are staying in order to attend any of our events, just let them know at time of booking. The success of The Lost Words, created in partnership with Robert Macfarlane has become quite a phenomenon, with successful campaigns nationwide to place a copy within every primary school across the UK, including Somerset and Devon. In 2019, The Lost Words was awarded the prestigious CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal, the only prize in the UK to solely reward outstanding illustration in a children's book. The Lost Spells saw the continuation of their successful collaboration and Book of Birds is awaited with much anticipation. ​ Jackie is delighted to have recently been nominated for the IBBY 2024 Hans Christian Andersen Award - the highest international recognition given to creators of children’s books whose complete works have made an important, lasting contribution to children's literature. ​ Seven Fables has worked closely with Jackie since 2013 and our customers have shared some magical moments with her including our 'Wild Swans Wing Walk' and more recently The Lost Spells event at Dunster Tithe Barn with both Jackie and Robert. ​ Please note that not all of Jackie's work is permanently on display at Seven Fables.
